About Tunde Adebayo
Welcome to Navigating Nigeria! I'm Tunde Adebayo, and I'm thrilled you're here.
Who Am I?
I'm a corporate expat who has called Lagos home for over five years. Originally from USA, I moved to Nigeria in 2020 for a management role in the Exhibition sector. What started as a two‑year assignment has turned into a deep appreciation for this country's energy, resilience, and warmth.
Why Did I Start This Blog?
When I first landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, I had a suitcase, a hotel booking, and a lot of unanswered questions. How do I open a bank account? Which neighbourhood is safe? Why did my data run out in three days?
I learned the answers the hard way – through trial, error, and patient colleagues who explained things I couldn't find on Google. This blog is my way of paying it forward. Here, I share practical, insider advice to help other expats (and expats‑to‑be) navigate Nigeria with confidence.
What Makes Me Qualified to Write This?
First‑hand experience: I've rented apartments, navigated the immigration maze, and survived Lagos traffic for over 1,800 days.
Corporate insider: I work closely with Nigerian colleagues and have learned the nuances of local business culture.
Continuous learning: I stay updated on visa regulations, banking policies, and safety guidelines so you don't have to.
What You'll Find Here
This isn't a tourist blog. You won't find "Top 10 Beaches" (well, maybe occasionally). Instead, you'll find:
Step‑by‑step guides for visas, banking, and housing
Honest cost‑of‑living breakdowns
Cultural insights that help you build real connections
Safety tips that are practical, not paranoid
A Quick Note on My Name
You might wonder why a non‑Nigerian has a Yoruba name. During my time here, I've been welcomed so warmly that I adopted "Tunde" – it's my way of honouring the country that has become my second home. In my culture, we believe that names carry meaning, and for me, Tunde represents a return – a return to sharing, to community, and to helping others find their footing.
Let's Connect
I'm not just a writer – I'm a reader, too. I love hearing from fellow expats. Whether you have a question, a suggestion, or just want to say hello, drop me a line. Your insights make this blog better for everyone.
Thanks for stopping by. Now, let's navigate Nigeria together.
